When Red lipstick was invented

The lipstick comes in various forms: liquid, cream, paste, powder, gel, or stain. Liquid lipstick is applied like any other type of lipstick but it dries quickly. Cream lipstick is similar to liquid lipstick except that it contains wax.

A Brief History Of Lipstick

When did lipstick become a part of our daily makeup routine? Did you ever imagine that it would be around for over 200 years?

Hazel Bishop, who is the author of “The History of Makeup” and “Beauty Secrets,” said that in ancient times women used to use beeswax as their lip color. She also said that they used red ochre on their lips.

Lipstick has always been a staple of women’s beauty routines. From ancient times until today, women have used lipsticks to enhance their natural beauty. In fact, the history of lipstick goes back to the 17th century.

Women have long used lipsticks to enhance the appearance of their lips. The earliest known reference to lipstick dates back to 1674 when French chemist Jean Baptiste Marguerite d’Alais created a red pigment called rouge de Marseille.

Solid Lipstick

In the early 1900’s, solid lipsticks made from wax were also developed. They didn’t contain any oils and thus they felt dry on the lips. This is why solid lipsticks are often referred to as “lip sticks” in other countries.

Liquid Lipstick

The 1950’s saw the introduction of liquid lipstick which contained oils to make them feel smooth on the lips. These liquid lipsticks looked more like lip glosses rather than regular lipsticks.

In 1962, Revlon introduced its first “wet” lipstick – Lipslicks. It had an unusual formula that included beeswax instead of petroleum jelly.

A Brief History Of Red Lipstick

In the 19th century, Parisian women started wearing bright red lip color in France and other parts of Europe. In 1879, Max Factor began selling his version of “lipstick” to American women. It wasn’t until 1895 that a woman named Queen Elizabeth Arden sold her first tube of lipstick.

The 20th century brought about many changes. In 1912, Helena Rubinstein introduced the first clear lipstick which contained no pigments. A few decades later, the first colored lipstick tubes were produced. These new colors included pinks, oranges, and purples.

During World War II, lipstick became even more important than before as women had to wear heavy make-up on their faces due to shortages of materials. After the war, the demand for lipstick increased dramatically. By 1950, there were approximately 1 billion lipsticks being sold worldwide.

Today, we can find lipsticks with nearly every shade imaginable; from nude to deep vampy burgundy. They come in different forms such as glosses, pencils, liquids, powders, gels, pastes, lip stains, and lip balms. Some are waterproof while others are not. We also have lipsticks designed specifically for men.
